Avalanche!!!

Thankfully the University is closed again today…so Harold doesn’t have to go to work…which is nice…especially since our water heater stopped working and there is supposed to be a repair person coming this morning…I hate being here by myself with Ruby to deal with repair people….I always prefer Harold is home when I let strangers into the house

Just had to include a cute Rubster pic.

So, Our poor puppies have been a little neglected in the grooming…and now that winter is here we again have to find a way to deal with the snow getting packed into the hair on their legs …burrrr

You would think that leaving their hair longer…would keep them warmer…right??? Nope…just gives the snow a way to hang on and freeze them even once they’re inside The only way to get it off is to run the whole darned dog under warm water…ummmm every time they pee?  Not going to happen….  

So we took them to a groomer today…I asked for this cut…and they did an awesome job (Barkingdales on Adelaide… love love love!)…  it’s exactly what we need right now so that they don’t get their hair pulled…the snow doesn’t pack their legs…and the don’t get knots in their hair…buttt…..I wasn’t totally prepared for this. 

I couldn’t tell them apart when I got back home this afternoon…it took me awhile and I still have to look for awhile…honestly…right now I tell them apart by the coat I have on them…lolol

So…yeah…they left as poor little Yorkies in need of a grooming….

And they came back as……CHIHUAHUAS!!!!

So, I really have to confess that I have coveted those cute cute little carseat cozy thingies with the zips up the side.  I went looking at them….the one’s I saw were $90.   Maybe there are more affordable ones somewhere else…but anyways…I didn’t buy one.   All the cool kids have them though!
Not long after I was looking at them I was reading the blogs I frequent…and guess what I saw!  This pattern! 
And here’s what I made

I used a big chunk on fleece that I actually bought over 5 years ago from the remnants pile…didn’t do anything with and ended up using as a blanket,  and I used the flannel that I got on sale at fabricland before Ruby was born for $1.99 a yard!  So, this cost less than $10 including the purchase of the pattern! 
It’s a pdf pattern, so you just download it and print in on your printer and tape the sheets together, no waiting.  It was really easy to follow (even for a beginner like me…although I did make a mistake…it’s not like there wasn’t a very clear instruction with a big photo right there…but…I somehow ignored it..lol), so yes, clear instructions with pictures showing you what to do at every step and really clear explanations. 
Love it love it…. see how cozy she looks I put it in her stroller yesterday and it was wonderful in there too!

The first bite...

Ruby got to try a little sweet potato yesterday (Sat)...it was her first food...

A video is worth a thousand pictures...

Harold and I had always talked about getting a video camera before Ruby was born....but they seemed so expensive (turns out they've come down a lot in price) and I really want something small...no bigger than a camera.  So, a Ravelry friend sent a link to her Vlog  (video blog) of her little one ...and I loved it...so I thought, hey, our nearly 5 year old camera has some basic video function...why not give it a try...so here is our almost a minute of video from this morning...it actually turned out better than I expected :-)

Now, here's hoping that I can get it uploaded and haven't typed this all for nothing :-)

Sorry this post is not about Little Pickle…this post is about my other love…no…not H either…this post is about chocolate.
These were so good I had to post about them…but…I couldn’t do that without a picture…and well…this was all that was left.

(oh..but I had to cook mine an extra 10 minutes or so…unusual for my oven…perhaps I had really wet zucchini?…..  )

I can fly!

The picture angle is really weird..I’m crouched down taking it.…but H is holding her up over his head…she LOVES flying…especially when we all say “Super Ruby!!!”

Pink bunny you’re the one!

Looks like pink bunny is the winner.  So soft…and those ears feel nice on the cheekies. I didn’t think Little Pickle was going to end up with a “must have” snuggly thing…but I think she may have very suddenly become irreversibly attached to pink bunny.  It was nap time on Sunday and I went to take pink bunny and move her to the end of the crib…. soft wimper..then a cry… so I offered pink bunny back and she was immediately snuggled against Pickle’s face and she turned her head and closed her eyes….So cute….

Mommy and Daddy are happy with her choice… pink bunny is a hand knit gift…nothing says love like hand knits…and added bonus, while pink bunny could never be replaced, if necessary an imposter bunny could be fashioned relatively easily.

Sunday visits

Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit this afternoon after church (we missed church today…but Gramma and Grampa made it to theirs).

I just made Ruby her first dress from this pattern.  I hope it fits. If it does she can wear it for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow night.  I love it!  I hope to make her a bunch more…and maybe some out of corduroy if I can find some on sale…and definitely some cozy flannel ones.  These dresses…with her woolie pants…and a cute shrug… I think I’ve found her winter wardrobe…oh dear.  I have a lot of work to do :-)  but it’s fun!

Good thing I love making stuff…because this little lady is tough to fit with clothing…. onsies are pretty much out for her for now…. To fit her length they fall off her shoulders…. she’s got a long torso.  So, hence the dress over pants, so when we pick her up the extra length will hopefully keep her cute little belly all warm and under cover….but really…. if it wasn’t for the warmth factor I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing a little more of that little belly..tee hee….

Random photos

So, the sad realization that I don’t have a single photo of my mom and I has lead me to subject my poor sweet baby to an impromptu self portrait photo session (as in holding the camera in one hand and taking bad photos with the other).  They might look silly…and Ruby looks either confused or less than impressed…hmmm perhaps shocked by the camera flash!  …but…  she will at least have a handful of pictures of us together.  Something I so so tearfully wish that I had with my mom.

Family visit

Ruby got to meet her cousin Brooklynn and her Auntie Kim this weekend (Labour Day long weekend).  I love this picture of Brooklynn holding Ruby, since I keep thinking that Ruby looks more like Brooklynn did as a baby than anyone else… although… most would argue that Ruby is a little carbon copy of her daddy, the similarities are definitely there (except the cheeks…those are from mommy all the way).
I was playing with black and white because I love the look and thought I might make a few of her scrapbook pages with black and white photos…whatcha think?

A new favourite toy

Now that grabbing things is in full swing, and the attempt must be made to eat everything, this is the new favourite toy.  It’s perfect.  The black elastic everywhere is easy for little hands to get ahold of. The little knobbley things make a happy little “plink” sound when it’s tipped back and forth, and the round ends are super tasty! Now…just check out those tweety bird cheeks…they’re hard to capture on camera…since they only show up with a certain facial expression….but I just LOVE THEM!

A little late

It appears I’ve been tardy with uploading pictures of our sweet girl.  So here are a few to make up for my delay :-)  Ruby will tell you about all the pictures below…really she will…I’m not putting words in her mouth…

A reader like her daddy

Harold is always…always reading something…and now…Little Pickle has found her love for books too.  This is a fabric book from Grandma Lucille.  It crinkles and there are different textures and little pieces that she can grab…she just now discovered that she CAN grab..and she loves it.

The toys be swingin’

So,  Just because I posted about how much she liked tracking those fish….  (I wrote that post a few days before it was published online).  Miss Wiggles has gone and made more astounding developments…and now her patience with those fish is a little short. She has started really really batting at toys (she was doing it a bit before…but now…those toys are getting a workout), so,  the other day I noticed her reaching, like she was trying to bat the fish on the swing, but couldn’t reach them…it was tres frustrating for Miss Wiggles….  she requested we remove her from the swing immediately and give her something she could reach.

Here’s an action shot of her in her “jungle gym”…  you can sort of see the toys swinging…  but my camera is not that quick, so I miss things.  She’s hit Mr.Octopus so hard that he’s spun around backwards in this picture…

“Gosh, aren’t I just the cutest!”  Really…that’s what she said!

I’m amazed at how she seems to be doing something new every week.  And every week we think it’s the biggest milestone…and then…the next week comes and she amazes us again…

It’s all about the swimming fish

This picture is from Tuesday.  A day before she turned 8 weeks.  In the last week or two she’s really changed a lot.  Now she will really track those fish as they turn around and around.  Before she used to prefer to just look at the still fishy picture on the side of the swing….now..it’s all about those swimming fish.

She’s still not much for swinging…usually we just have the swing part turned off, with the fish and sometime music going.  Our girl does not do well with too much movement.  Which makes it tough because people seem to automatically bounce or rock or jiggle a baby constantly the entire time they’re holding them…..  I don’t always know the best way to say “stop jostling my baby….she likes calm and still…so she can look around and not vomit”  ….any ideas on the best way to gently get this across.  I’ve used the “oh…she just ate, you might not want to move her too much” but that only works for a couple of minutes,…then it’s back to bouncing.  I never realized it before…but really, everyone keeps babies in constant motion.  

More smiles

Here’s another smiley picture from after her nap on Monday…  I was wrong on my last post…that wasn’t early morning…it was after her nap…  same deal though…lot’s of smiles!  Smiles never capture quite the same on camera do they…..  the pictures are cute, but, they just don’t look like the real thing… she lights up the room I tell ya.

Yarrrr!

This picture was taken of our smiley girl on Monday right when she was waking up.  She is a morning person!  See the sleepy eyes, and yet she’s all smiles for us.  What a fantastic thing to see first thing in the morning.

Anyways, Harold thinks she looks like a pirate in this picture…he want the caption to say “Yarrrrrr!”  or however you spell that pirate word.  It’s kindof fitting that she would look a little piratey….I guess she’s taking after her mother on that one…  wait till she tries to wink!

Snug as a bug

Waiting to go home…. we waited from 9am till 3:30pm to get discharged from the hospital…so…I’ve got a few more pictures from that time to share :-)  

Less than 24 hrs old

Oh dear…

We sometimes just read whatever we are reading to Miss Wiggles…since…it’s really more the voice that matters right now right?  Daddy was reading to her the other day…. I think the look on her face is priceless…”oh no…the state of the world!!!”

Up all night in this new world

The first night Miss Wiggles was born…we both just layed there…staring at each other….  for a long time….this was taken at about 3:40am.  We were up most of the night…there was also a lot of crying…and not much sleep.
