I hate when that happens! What kind of heel is it? You could put the foot and leg parts on spare needles or waste yarn and knit an afterthought heel (same colourway or contrasting solid), then graft it back onto the foot/leg. Alternatively you could reinforce it with a second pass of wool overtop...eventually that will wear through too though.
Oh I hadn't thought of an afterthought heel! Hmmm, this is a sweet tomato heel though, so I'm not sure how well that would work. The socks are a wee bit too big, so I'm thinking when they wear right through, I will just completely unravel them as save whatever yarn I can. I loved this yarn!
