When do you turn the heat on?

Hi All,

Hope you're all feeling toasty and warm this morning. Things are cooling down here fast!
Actually on the weekend we were wearing t-shirts outside. Now, it's all about the sweaters and jackets. Tuesday was the first really cold day, when we realized that it's officially NOT summer anymore :-( My garden isn't even put to bed yet.

So I ask you all, when do you decide to turn the heat on? Yesterday we came home and it was 65F in the house, we resisted. This morning we woke up and it is 63F.

Edit: I should say...I mean the temperature in the house...outside the house it's been about 38F with a high of a nice balmy 58F. I'm fine with that outside...but...not so much on the inside :-)

So, what is you threshold for flipping the switch? I'm just curious :-D

Happy Friday!

When I got home from work yesterday it was a chilly 64 degrees in the house. We had our heat on the last 3 nights. I turn the heat off in the early am.
We have a corn burning stove that heats our house. The corn is still out in the fields. The harvest has not started yet. We are using our propane gas forced central heat. Way more expensive than the corn!!!
Come on harvest time!!!!

It's not something I think about much since I live in such a warm climate. Our air conditioner gets more of a workout than our heater.

I wait and wait and wait. I use natural gas heat and it is expensive!! This year I am looking into getting some electric heaters too.

I wait until it is consistantly in the 50s. We start out cold and then warm up in the day and it is enough to keep the house warm in the evening. So I am hoping that I won't have to use the heat until Novemeber at least! I put it off as long as possible.

Example just using gas for cooking and water heater my gas bill was $54. It goes up to 300-400 in the really cold months. That is because oil prices are so wacky right now!
